Verify the institution’s legal name and degree-awarding status through the applicable regulator. For an online or distance degree, verify the exact programme, mode and session on UGC-DEB. Accreditation, ranking and programme entitlement are separate questions.
A three-part verification process
- Find the institution under its legal name and confirm the awarding body.
- Match the programme title and mode to the applicable current official record.
- Check that the qualification meets the requirements of your intended further study or professional pathway.
What an accreditation badge can tell you
Accreditation describes an institutional or programme assessment within its stated scope and validity. It should not be treated as a substitute for permission to offer a specific course in an online or distance mode. Do not infer a current grade from an old advertisement.
Keep evidence of your checks
Save the relevant official listing, prospectus and offer letter with the date you reviewed them. If the names, modes or programme titles do not match, ask the institution for clarification before paying. Overseas admission and regulated employment may require separate eligibility checks.
